Take-Two has filed a trademark dispute over Remedy's new logo, saying it is too similar to Rockstar's logo.

It has been revealed that Take-Two Interactive has an ongoing trademark dispute with Remedy Entertainment over its new logo.

As reported Repost firstRemedy filed a trademark application for its new logo, a stylized R, with the UK Intellectual Property Office in May 2013.

The logo was then published in June 2023, and Take-Two filed an objection in September.

In its grounds of opposition, Take-Two claims that “there is a potential for public confusion” between the new Remedy logo and one of Take-Two's trademark logos.

Specifically, Take-Two reportedly believes Remedy's new logo is too similar to that of its subsidiary Rockstar Games.

The company previously filed a dispute in 2021 over developer Hazelight's attempt to register a trademark for its critically acclaimed collaboration platform It Takes Two. The claim forced Hazelight to abandon its trademark.

Take-Two's dispute with Remedy is especially awkward because Remedy is currently working with Rockstar on the Max Payne remake and Max Payne 2.

Announced in April 2022, Max Payne 1 and 2 will be sold together as a bundle and released on Xbox Series Both games will use Remedy's Northlight game engine, which was used in Control and Alan Wake 2.

Remedy sold the rights to the Max Payne brand to Take-Two in 2002 for $34 million. Max Payne remakes are made possible thanks to an agreement between Remedy and Rockstar.

Rockstar will fund the remake's development budget, which will be “in line with the production of a typical Remedy AAA game,” and once Rockstar recovers development, marketing and other costs, Remedy will have the opportunity to earn royalties from subsequent game sales.
