Double misfortune for Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbach: After her government flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was delayed by two hours due to a technical problem on Monday, another glitch occurred before her flight back to Berlin on Wednesday afternoon. This time in the desert emirate of Qatar, the Bundeswehr’s ready-to-fly replacement engine was damaged. The Air Force has to replace the damaged tire of the Airbus with a spare part, a spokesman for the Foreign Office said in Doha on Wednesday.
The foreign minister will therefore have to spend the night in Doha, the Qatari capital, and the return flight has been postponed from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. A visit to Germany is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
