Respawn makes statement on terrible PC ‘Jedi: Survivor’ performance

Respawn just did Out With one of those famous “our game not working” images with a bunch of little text on it, in this case about Star Wars: Jedi Survivor PC’s terrible performance ruining Steam ratings for a good game.

The note here is not an apology, but a statement of “awareness” of the problem and to say they are working on fixing the game “as soon as possible”. But due to the complexity of the problems, it may take some time. This is the statement in full:

We realize that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does not perform up to our standards for a percentage of our PC players, particularly those with high-end hardware or certain specific configurations.

For example, gamers using high-end, multi-threaded chips designed for Windows 11 experienced issues on Windows 10, or high-end GPUs paired with low-performance CPUs also experienced unexpected frame loss. Rest assured, we’re working on it. Address these cases quickly.

The statement continues, “While there is no single end-to-end solution for PC performance, the team is working on fixes that we believe will improve performance across a range of configurations.” We are committed to fixing these issues as quickly as possible, but each patch requires significant testing to ensure we are not introducing new issues. Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize to any of our players who experience these issues.

We will continue to monitor performance across all platforms and share the timing of an update as soon as it becomes available.

The idea here is that in fact better Your machine is, it might have performed worse with the current list of errors. Although it also seemed to blame the players’ configurations, a high-end GPU combined with a bad CPU, which rubbed some people the wrong way. Here also no feedback about any issues on the console, which, yes, would lead to better performance, but there’s still frame dropping and some other issues there.

The general meaning of all this is, “How on earth does this happen with every new release?” PC game releases in particular keep firing that are borderline broken and have to be fixed with a series of patches that take days, weeks or even months. In this case, it seems like a very big shame for all parties because outside of those issues, Jedi: Survivor is pretty good. But then this sparked another controversy among fans and critics, questioning the high scores of a game that can hardly be played on many devices. It’s an age old question whether you’re reviewing game bugs that might soon be fixed, or if you’re reviewing the content of the game itself. But both paths create problems.

No one likes to see these issues, but on the consumer side it’s getting increasingly frustrating that these games aren’t constantly lagging due to “polishing”, it’s after the fact, Still Starting off with massive technical problems, particularly on PC. We’ll see how long this fix will take, but we don’t exactly get a timeline from Respawn here.
