Giant video screen falls during Hong Kong pop concert, dancers injured

HONG KONG (July 29) (Reuters) – A large video board fell off a stage during a Hong Kong Boy Band Mirror party on Thursday, injuring at least two dancers, one of them seriously, and prompting authorities to prevent the band from performing a suspended show. Investigation.

None of the twelve members of the Mirror were hurt in the accident, which took place at the Hong Kong Coliseum next to Victoria Harbour.

The city government had ordered the band, which had been performing 12 shows at the venue, to postpone their upcoming shows.

Culture Minister Kevin Young said performances at the venue have been suspended until its stage structure has been deemed safe.

“From initial observation, a wire broke and caused the screen to fall and injure the dancers,” Young said at a media briefing on Friday.

The hugely popular group Cantopop was formed in 2018 with a reality TV show.

Over 13,000 mirror fans have signed an online petition asking the concert organizer to fix issues and ensure everyone’s safety.

MakerVille, the party’s organizer, owned by Hong Kong businessman Richard Lee’s PCCW Media Group, said it was thoroughly investigating the incident.

“We deeply regret that the incident caused discomfort to viewers or others affected,” she said.
