‘Remnant 2’ Dethrones ‘CSGO’ as the top revenue seller on Steam

A few days before its official release, Remnant 2 climbed to the top of the bestseller books Steam chartsjumped 69 places in a week, surpassing both Baldur’s Gate 3 pre-orders and CSGO’s brutal endless microtransactions that usually mean it’s at the top, along with being free-to-play.

Chart by revenue, not total sales, and that makes the Remnant 2 even more impressive given that it’s $50 off price compared to the $60 or $70 alternatives.

This week, the game’s reviews are unblocked and hit a solid 80 points MetacriticDefinitely a win for developer Gunfire Games, who seem saddled with the game’s reception. While Remnant: From the Ashes has had its own share of fans, it looks like Remnant 2 will dwarf the first game in more ways than one.

The game is having a strong launch on Twitch as it’s only in Early Access for now ahead of its official launch on July 25th. Right now, Apex Legends and Diablo 4 are getting ahead, even with Diablo Season 1 kicking off this week.

I’ve seen almost no ads for Remnant 2, though I’m probably just looking in the wrong places. But I feel like this was a lot of organic word of mouth, singing the game’s praises. I wasn’t planning on playing it since I didn’t play the first game, but enough people have recommended it to me that I don’t feel like I really have a choice, and when I get back from a trip early next week, I’m going to dive in. My friend Travis, usually the one who gives the worst games to review, gave it a 9/10 on IGNso it really caught my attention.

It remains to be seen what this game’s launch sales will ultimately be, but given this early Steam performance, I wouldn’t be shocked to see it exceed Gunfire’s expectations, and prove to be a huge win for publisher Gearbox, of Borderlands fame.

Even in a two-to-three-month period that has seen a huge amount of great releases, it looks like Remnant 2 could make for a solid finale with Baldur’s Gate here at the end of the summer. I look forward to checking it out myself soon.
