Packers CB Jaire Alexander rolls his ankle during a running back

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Jair Alexander has dealt with three separate injuries this season, and only one of them occurred during the game.

The Green Bay Packers cornerback's latest problem occurred on Wednesday when he rolled his ankle during a half-speed drill. That could threaten his availability for Sunday's NFC playoff game at the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys.

“So, it was a weird trade yesterday,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Thursday. “I mean, because you guys saw we were mostly running, unfortunately [he] He stepped on someone's foot and twisted their ankle. “I know he's doing everything he can to be available, I'd say it's an everyday thing and we thought it was better today that he didn't train.”

When asked if he had ever seen a player get injured while running, LaFleur said: “Well, it happened. It doesn't happen very regularly and it was just a terrible deal. It wasn't like he was, I mean he was locked in and focused and doing “Everything we ask of him, unfortunately he stepped on someone's foot and it happened.”

Alexander played in only seven games during the regular season.

He missed three games earlier this season due to a back injury suffered during practice when he collided with practice squad quarterback Alex McGough, who was working as a safety for the scout team.

He then missed six games with a shoulder injury suffered on November 5 against the Los Angeles Rams. He also missed the Week 17 match after being suspended for behavior that harmed the team. He returned for the final game of the season last week against the Chicago Bears and played every defensive snap in the game that clinched the Packers' playoff berth.

Alexander did not speak to reporters Thursday, but was seen in the locker room without a noticeable limp or any protective device on his ankles.

If the Packers don't have Alexander against the Cowboys' high-powered offense, they would like to return Corey Ballentine, who has started six games this season and has more interceptions (one) than Alexander. The other starting cornerback was rookie seventh-round pick Carrington Valentine (12 starts) with veteran Kesan Nixon as the slot corner.

The only two players other than Alexander who missed Thursday's practice were guard Elgton Jenkins (who had the day off) and running back AJ Dillon (Stinger). All of their receivers — including Romeo Dobbs (who left Sunday's game with a chest injury that required a hospital visit) and Christian Watson (who has missed the past five games with a hamstring injury) — were on the field for at least a limited amount of time. capacity.
