The EU is behind on delivery targets for Ukraine

Since the beginning of the war of Russian aggression, Ukraine has been supported by the European Union. Member States have agreed to provide two billion euros in aid. As of the current interim, the actual goal of one million shots is still far away.

The European Union has given Ukraine 223,800 shells as part of a plan to provide 1 million artillery shells to help Ukraine fight Russia. EU spokesman Peter Stano announced that member states had “delivered 2,300 anti-tank guns, long-range precision-guided munitions, mortar shells and all types of rockets”.

27 EU member states pledged to supply Ukraine with more ammunition in March. They agreed on an EU fund of two billion euros, which would provide Ukraine with one million rounds of artillery ammunition within a year from individual states’ stocks and joint EU directives.

With the current supply, EU countries are still a long way from their target of one million rounds by next spring. For the second part of the supply plan, the EU defense agency EDA is negotiating joint procurement agreements with European manufacturers for 155mm howitzer grenades and rockets.

According to their own reports, since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine in February 2023, the European Union and its member states have spent a total of about 20 billion euros on supplying Ukraine with all kinds of weapons.

Estonia recently announced that it would provide more military aid to Ukraine in its fight against Russia. The government of the Baltic European Union and NATO states decided to hand over small arms and ammunition to Kiev.
