Netanyahu released from hospital: Dehydration to blame

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has left the clinic after being hospitalized for dehydration, his office said. After a series of tests, “our diagnosis was that dehydration was the cause of the hospitalization,” Amit Sekaev, head of cardiology at Sheba Hospital, said in a video message.

“His heart was completely normal,” Segev said. No heartbeat was detected in Netanyahu. It was decided to implant a device for further monitoring, Segev continued.

Netanyahu spoke again hours later on Saturday. The 73-year-old promised via video message:

During his stay at the lake, he got too much sun and drank too little.

Before being admitted to Sheba Hospital near Tel Aviv, Netanyahu was “dizzy,” his office said. Initial investigations suggest the head of government has suffered dehydration after a long stay at the Sea of Galilee in the country’s north.

Netanyahu later confirmed this information in a video: he and his wife spent time “in the sun, without a hat, without water” at the lake. “Not such a good idea,” said the Prime Minister. He called on his companions to “spend less time in the sun” and “drink more water.”

Meanwhile, tens of thousands again took to the streets against the planned judicial reform. They feel that the independence of the judiciary and democracy is at stake.

Netanyahu was elected head of government last year under the leadership of a right-wing religious coalition – after he previously ruled for twelve consecutive years until 2021. Protests against him have been going on for months, mainly because of a planned judicial reform. Also, his detractors are demanding that the 73-year-old step down as he faces a pending court case on corruption charges.

Netanyahu had already spent a night in the hospital last October. According to official reports, he felt uncomfortable while fasting on Yom Kippur, the highest Jewish holiday.
