Microsoft has just posted download links for its latest August 24, 2017, firmware and driver update for its Surface Pro 3 tablets. The new cumulative firmware release updates a bunch of drivers that brings support for Surface Pro Type Cover as well as for Surface Pro Signature Type covers.

The latest update includes drivers for Surface Smart Cover Backlight, Surface PTP Filter, Fingerprint Sensor Driver, Surface Pro Type Cover Integration, as well as Surface Type Cover Filter Device. Surface Pro 3 users can install the update either automatically using Windows update services, or by manually downloading or installing the update pack.

  • Surface – System – 3.0.0.0: Surface Smart Cover Backlight – System device – 3.0.0.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – HID – 1.0.173.1: Surface PTP Filter – HID – 1.0.173.1 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – Biometric – 2.2.11.0: Surface Fingerprint Sensor Driver – Biometric device – 2.2.11.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – HID – 1.0.2.0: Surface Pro Type Cover Integration – HID – 1.0.2.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – Keyboards – 1.1.504.0: Surface Type Cover Filter Device – Keyboards – 1.1.504.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.

Users who download the update via Microsoft’s Windows Update service will receive the new firmware update, but in stages. Though you can manually download and install the update and get all the files in one go. There are two files available, one in ZIP format while the other is in MSI, both compatible with Windows 10 OS only.

Also, readers should note  that the update is only applicable to Surface Pro 3 devices that are still running Windows 10 version 1607, commonly known as the Anniversary Update. For more information, click on the source link below.
