Russia says it shot down two Ukrainian drones targeting the Kremlin in Moscow. The Kremlin later accused the Ukrainian leadership of an “attempted attack” against Vladimir Putin. Ukraine has denied this.
DUkraine has denied Russia’s accusations that it attempted to kill President Vladimir Putin in an attack on the Kremlin in Moscow. Ukraine has nothing to do with it, says Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Such an approach would not benefit Ukraine on the battlefield and would only prompt Russia to take “more aggressive measures.” Russia’s statement may point to preparations for a major “terrorist” attack on Ukraine in the coming days.
Russia has previously accused Ukraine of trying to attack Kremlin leader Putin and threatened countermeasures. On Wednesday night, two drones flying towards the Kremlin compound crashed, the Russian president’s office said. Putin was unharmed.
According to a Kremlin statement, the attack was classified as a “planned terrorist attack and assassination attempt against the President of the Russian Federation”. “The Russian side reserves the right to take countermeasures as and when it deems appropriate.” This information could not be independently verified initially.
