For Kelsey Grammer, politics and business don’t seem to mix well.
The “Frasier” star spoke about his political views, specifically his support for former President Donald Trump, during an interview Monday on CNN. The Today program on BBC Radio 4.
After mentioning comedian and Trump supporter Roseanne Barr earlier in the interview, host Justin Webb asked Grammer if he was still a supporter of the former president.
“I am,” Grammer said. “And I’ll let that be the end of it.”
But according to Webb, that was not the end of the matter.
The BBC host revealed after the interview aired that Grammer had no problem discussing his support for Trump, but PR representatives from Paramount+ (which is airing the Frasier revival) cut the interview short, according to A clip of Webb’s comments after the interview Shared by Mediaite.
“I have to say, actually, Kelsey Grammer himself was quite happy to keep talking about this,” Webb said. “The PR people at Paramount+, they were less than happy that he talked about it at length, so we decided…they decided that we had plenty of time to do our interview. But I have to stress that he was quite happy to talk about why he supported Donald Trump and still does.” He supports him in the upcoming elections.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Grammer and Paramount+ for comment.
Grammer revived his famous character Dr. Frasier Crane when the “Frasier” sitcom returned for a reboot in October. Dr. Crane first appeared as the obnoxious boyfriend of Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) in the season three premiere of “Cheers” in September 1984, where he turned a small part into an indelible role for nine seasons.
“We knew from the first five lines that this guy was amazing because he could compete with the amazing cast of ‘Cheers,'” James Burrows, the “Frasier” director and “Cheers” co-writer, told USA TODAY in October. “Frasier was only written for a short character. But after the first show, we said, ‘Oh my God, we have to keep this guy.’ “We would have gone blind if we hadn’t seen her.”
