The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has announced its decision to call for a boycott of filming in the Maldives amid rising tensions between India and the island nation. Condemning recent statements made by Maldives ministers regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Film Industry Workers Union has appealed to its members and others to join the ban with them. FWICE issues notice regarding photo shoots and holidays in Maldives
The official statement read: “In view of the growing row between India and Maldives over the offensive statement issued by three Maldivian ministers, FWICE which is the oldest and largest federal body for workers, technicians and artistes working in the media and entertainment industry, strongly condemns the irresponsible and ridiculous statements made by It has Maldives ministers against the globally respected Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. In solidarity with the nation and its vast culture, FWICE members have decided to boycott the Maldives over their filming locations. Instead, FWICE appeals to its members to choose similar locations in India for the purpose of filming and to contribute to the development Tourism in India.
“All producers in India and across the world are advised not to plan any shootings or production activities in the Maldives. We all stand in strong support of our Prime Minister and our nation.”

The decision came days after some prominent figures from the Maldives mocked India and the intention of its Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the Indian islands. Prime Minister Modi recently visited the Lakshadweep Islands and posted pictures of himself relaxing on the beach and even trying to snorkel while promoting the island.

Soon after, many celebrities who are often seen visiting the Maldives on a regular basis, started promoting Indian islands like Lakshadweep. From Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar and Shraddha Kapoor, many people have noticed and posted about the crystal blue waters of the Indian islands.
Akshay said in his post: “I came across comments from prominent public figures from the Maldives making hateful and racist comments about Indians. I was surprised that they are doing this in a country that sends them the largest number of tourists. We are good to our neighbors, but why should we tolerate such things?” Unjustified hatred?
