A magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit the New York metropolitan area on Friday. Its center was near Lebanon in the US state of New Jersey. The streets in Manhattan shook for a while. There were aftershocks during the night.
EAn earthquake struck the densely populated New York metropolitan area. Residents in the northeast of the metropolis reported feeling the quake. The USGS initially reported the magnitude of the quake as 4.8 on Friday morning (local time). The epicenter was near Lebanon, New Jersey – or about 70 kilometers west of New York and 80 kilometers north of Philadelphia. The New York Fire Department said it had not yet received any reports of damage.
There were aftershocks during the night. 4.0 magnitude shocks were measured, this time centered in Gladstone, New Jersey. This time also videos of houses shaking were released.
