Writers picket the grounds of “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Monday to protest the show’s return amid the ongoing writers’ strike.
Drew Barrymore announced the return of her namesake talk show on Sunday, telling fans on A Lengthy statement on Instagram She is “choosing to return for the first time in this strike for our show, which may have my name on it but this is bigger than just me.”
“I own that choice. We are committed to not discussing or promoting bashing movies and TV of any kind,” she wrote.
The Writers Guild of America, the union that represents most of the Hollywood writers behind your favorite TV shows and movies, went on strike at the beginning of May over issues related to fair compensation, retirement plans, and health insurance.
Barrymore acknowledged that some people may feel conflicted by her stepping down from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards in solidarity with the writers, but she is returning to her show.
“I was the host and it was in direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streaming, film and TV. It was also the first week of the strike so I did what I thought was the appropriate thing at that time to stand in solidarity with the writers,” the actress said.

“The Drew Barrymore Show” wrapped filming on Season 3 in April for a summer hiatus. Returning to the film’s fourth season, a CBS Media Ventures spokesperson told USA TODAY in a joint statement Monday that the show “does not perform any writing work covered by the WGA strike.”
The WGA has since added “The Drew Barrymore Show” to its East Coast lineup Sit-in sites For Monday and Tuesday.
“The View” is also meeting with protesters on Monday due to the show’s return earlier this month.
