Austria: 3 killed in avalanche in Tyrol – tough rescue – Panorama

An avalanche hit the Ötztal Alps on Thursday morning. A group of people were caught. The Trollor Tagessitung And Constant Three winter athletes from the Netherlands, aged 33, 35 and 60, have died. Another buried person was rescued. According to police, the 32-year-old was hospitalized with injuries. No precise information was initially available on the condition of the second person who was rescued.

An avalanche occurred on the way to the Martin-Busch-Hütte, which is located at 2,501 meters above sea level. For the past few days there has been a lot of fresh snow in the Tyrolean mountains.

A total of 17 people are said to have been near the avalanche. Contrary to initial reports, fortunately not all of them were affected by the ice sheets. According to the Mountain Rescue Team, the winter sports enthusiasts were a ski touring group.

A police spokesman in Innsbruck said the rescue operation was too dangerous for rescuers, given the extreme risk of avalanches in the area. The work was temporarily interrupted to throw threatening masses of snow at the edges of the slope.

Helicopter crews, mountain rescue teams, dog squads and police were deployed at the accident site. Gregor Franke, operations manager from the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service, told ORF that the buried people did not trigger the avalanche.

On Tuesday, a ski avalanche proved fatal for a six-member hiking group at Berenkop on Achensee Lake (Svaz District). A 19-year-old German was dragged almost 300 meters by the snow, buried and killed. His accomplices survived the accident.

According to analysis by the Avalanche Warning Service, the avalanche was not directly triggered by the climbers, but was released spontaneously. However, warnings have been issued that avalanches breaking up at higher altitudes could reach rural areas.
