At $2,950, is a 1982 BMW 735i worth selling?

today Nice price or no dice The E23 seems to be a solid base for a great old car that can be run over the weekend and still driven during the week. Let's decide what this workhorse might be worth.

the 2007 Chevy Corvette Z51 The car we saw yesterday was shown off in Florida, which, as it happens, is the home of YouTuber and Corvette aficionado, Samcrac. While our car had a big spoiler and no mufflers, its $15,500 price tag and clean title didn't fit Sam's budget and the car's broken grille. That price and presentation wasn't up to our standards either, dropping 62 percent without a dice to start our week and the new year.

Hey, speaking of years, have you noticed that BMWs seem more aggressive as the years go by? It's as if the company recently hired its designers from the Braille Institute. However, go back a few years, and you'll find that BMW once designed cars to be timeless classics.

this 1982 BMW 735i It is one of those classics. Although it's a bit rough around the edges – and in the cabin and under the hood – the bones feel solid, and overall, it appears to be in serviceable and driving condition.

But what really makes this car special is the drivetrain. This consists of a 182-hp M30 3.4-liter straight-six matched to a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox driving an independent rear end. You can probably count the number of manual-equipped E23 cars still on the road in the United States without taking off your shoes, so this is a pretty unique find.

According to the ad, the car has been stationary for a period of time and will need to be “tune-up” before it can be relied upon again. When looking at pictures, you'll need more than just a tune. It will require some paint work, upholstery and deep cleaning, especially for the dirty engine compartment.

On the plus side, with the exception of the steering wheel, everything feels complete, and the basic car is analogue enough that a lot of the systems prove old-school reliability.

With 157,000 miles on the clock, all of these systems will require a thorough inspection and updating as needed. However, there doesn't have to be anything particularly scary to do so. Michelin tires are installed on the car, but the seller did not mention their age. However, the factory Style 2 alloys appear to be in good condition.

Although it's tired and clearly needs some work, this big Bimmer seems like a strong candidate to stay put. The question is, how much will it cost to do this? The seller is asking $2,950 for the car, claiming it is “priced to sell.”
