Mental problem?

According to Bonnet-Mathis, the man underwent a psychiatric evaluation. There is no evidence of delusion. However, there are still some signs of psychological problems for the man who walked restlessly and rolled on the floor in custody. He apparently refused to go before the trial judge in the morning. Officers had to carry him to a police car in a hospital chair, as seen on television footage.

However, psychiatrists found the 31-year-old competent to be detained after being interviewed. A medical examination showed no evidence of alcohol or drugs.

Asylum claim rejected in France

While the 31-year-old remains silent, investigators are now focusing their inquiries into his life and his living conditions. The lawyer said the man fled Syria to Sweden in 2013, where he received asylum and later married. He has a three-year-old daughter and separated from his wife last year.

In May 2022 he traveled to Italy and Switzerland and arrived in France in the autumn, where he applied for asylum. This was rejected as Sweden had already ratified it. This application was rejected four days before the offence. Whether this can have anything to do with reality is obvious.

In Annecy he lived homeless on the doorstep. Police searched the man after he washed up in Lake Annecy on Sunday, Interior Minister Gerald Dormanin said in “Le Parisien” newspaper. However, there was no reason to arrest him.
