In recent weeks, the crown princess has had to step down due to health issues. Now Mette-Marit is giving Norwegians reason to breathe a sigh of relief.
In October 2018, it was announced that Mette-Marit from Norway had been suffering from chronic pulmonary fibrosis for several years. The change in tissue causes the organ to harden and scar, resulting in a decrease in volume, which in turn restricts breathing. Nevertheless, the Crown Princess tries to influence her royal duties as much as possible.
Mette-Marit cheers on the football field
But now Norwegians are heaving a sigh of relief: the crown princess was surprisingly happy at the soccer game over the weekend. Mette-Marit and husband Haakon cheered them on from Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium as Norwegian clubs Stabaek FK and SK Brann battled it out for the trophy on the pitch.
The 49-year-old kept warm in a striped turtleneck and down jacket, her blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail. Mette-Marit appeared as single as she hadn’t been in a long time, fit and in good spirits. She kept getting up to watch the fight on the lawn. She beamed, cheered, and waved at the players.
After the diagnosis about four years ago, the crown princess herself explained that she and her husband had decided to inform the public because there would be periods in the future when they would not be able to attend official meetings due to pulmonary fibrosis. “I am happy that the disease was detected so early. My goal is to continue working as well as possible and participate in the official program,” he said.
