During an appearance on the last day of a NATO summit, US President Biden called Ukraine President Zelensky Putin wrong. Biden is under special scrutiny at the summit. Chancellor Scholes responded calmly.

At a key point in his speech on the last day of the NATO summit, US President Joe Biden swapped the name of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

Biden talked about a war of Russian aggression and then wanted to give ground to Zelensky. He said: “I now hand over the floor to the President of Ukraine, who is a man of resolute courage. Ladies and gentlemen: President Putin.”

When he returned from the lecture, the 81-year-old noticed the mistake. He quickly corrected himself and apologized for being so focused on defeating Putin. Standing next to him on stage, Zelensky jokingly countered, “I’m fine.”

Biden remains under scrutiny at the NATO meeting after raising doubts about his mental and physical fitness during a televised battle against his US election campaign rival Donald Trump in late June.

Chancellor Olaf Scholes, who was on stage, calmly commented on the incident: “Mistakes happen.” If you look hard enough, you’ll find enough mistakes. It doesn’t change the content of Biden’s speech.
