last Yellowstone Fighting is brewing!
Co-creator and director Taylor Sheridan has filed a lawsuit against one of its stars — Cole Hauser, who plays fan-favorite, murderous, romantic Rip.
It’s all over coffee.
Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch – Filming location Yellowstone And 1883 – A suit was filed in federal court in Texas against Hauser’s coffee company, Free Rein, on November 21.
the problem? The brand logo of Free Rein’s Coffee is similar to the brand logo of Sheridan Company. To make things a little confusing, the brand’s logos look like literal livestock brands — the Bosque logo has an interlocking “BR” and the Free Rein logo has an interlocking “FR.”
The lawsuit alleges “trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising” and slanders Free Rein for a logo that “confusingly resembles the BR trademark for virtually identical merchandise” and also alleges that Free Rein attempts to “misrepresent or deceive as to its affiliation, connection, or association” with the farm. In other words: Sheridan has already been there, done that, and Free Rein is not at liberty to use a similar slogan that allegedly “irreparably harms Bosque Ranch.”
Bosque Ranch announced in July its coffee brand that reflects the “cowboy lifestyle” and its ad copy notes, “Coffee is as essential to a cowboy as his boots and saddle. It’s our fuel. Bosque Ranch Craft Coffee is bold but “Smooth, and meant to be sipped all day long. Sometimes all night long.” While Free Rein Coffee launched three months later, saying its coffee was “born from the cowboy tradition” and having product names such as “American Dirt” and “Heavy Spur.”
Their respective coffee websites show Sheridan and Hauser, respectively, standing outdoors wearing cowboy hats and holding a cup of coffee, looking wistfully into the distance. Neither party has commented, so it’s not yet clear whether the lawsuit will result in Free Rein ceasing to use the logo.
The lawsuit adds to the simmering controversy surrounding the hit Paramount series, which has been on an extended hiatus for various reasons including Sheridan’s fight with another star of the show, Kevin Costner, who has apparently backed out of filming. Sources from the production blamed the actor’s busy schedule, while sources from the actor’s camp claimed that Sheridan took on too many television projects, so did not focus enough on the show, and Sheridan himself cited Paramount’s increasing demands for more content for its series. Streaming service.
Costner has also threatened to sue Paramount over what he views as money owed to him for the series’ remaining fifth-season episodes, which have not yet been filmed, and it is unclear whether the actor will participate.
Instead, Costner directs and stars in a series of westerns titled HorizonThe first two parts are scheduled to be released next year. Yellowstone Production is expected to resume early next year and return in late 2024 for its final episodes.
Costner also has a coffee deal that includes a publicity photo of him outdoors wearing a cowboy hat and holding a mug. Coffee name: Horizon Blend.
