In France, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead by a police officer during a police raid. A witness filmed the officer firing a gun at the boy.

Munich/Nanterre – Public shock in France: A 17-year-old driver was shot dead by a police officer during a traffic stop in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. On Tuesday morning (June 27), a motorcycle patrolman stopped a car carrying three people. The video shows an officer pointing his gun at the driver and pulling the trigger. Then violent riots broke out in Nanterre and other suburbs.

The video was posted on Twitter by a witness on June 27 and broadcast by the French broadcaster France info Verified. A yellow car and two police officers can be seen standing on the driver’s side. One of them is leaning on the driver’s window and the other is shooting at the driver. As the car drives away, a police officer is heard firing a gun at the driver. Then the car drives off.

You can see the yellow car again in another scene of the video. It went a few meters off the road and hit a roadblock, the video shows France info reported. A 17-year-old boy was killed by a pounce on his chest. A minor passenger was arrested and later released. A third passenger fled, according to prosecutors.

Police officer who shoots boy dead in France: Trials against officers begin

Initially, the youths wanted to run over them, officials said. In the second version, they deviated from the explanation and described the 17-year-old as not following their instructions and suddenly stepping on the gas. On Wednesday (June 27), Interior Minister Gerald Dormanin said the officer who fired the shots had been taken into police custody. He is being investigated on suspicion of murder.

The slain teenager was reportedly known to police for previous traffic offenses and resisting law enforcement officers. The boy’s family, through their lawyer, announced they would sue the shooter for murder and perjury because his account of events was clearly contradicted by the video footage.

17-year-old killed in police raid – protests spread

People protested in front of the police station in Nantheri on Tuesday evening. The protest spread to other places on Wednesday night as well. Garbage bins, cars, a primary school and an extension of the town hall were set on fire by enraged residents. The firecrackers burst and the rescuers fired. According to Home Minister Dharman, 31 people were arrested and 24 out of 1,200 police officers were injured.

This is not the first time protests and demonstrations have gotten out of hand in France. But why are the protests growing in France and not here in Germany? (vk with dpa)
