It was a month ago last year when I posed the question: Will Siri face survive watchOS 10 and Apple Watch widgets?

As far as I know, Apple has never retired the watch face. Some are device-specific, others are redesigned, but watch faces don’t leave the Apple Watch. I think that’s why the Siri watch face is still there for now, but it will need some love to stay relevant.

As of watchOS 10, the Siri watch face is six versions old. It debuted with a lot of potential and took steps toward fulfilling that potential before stopping. There’s now a new widget system on the Apple Watch that turns Siri’s watch face into an artifact. It still has some uniqueness, but I’m not sure that will be the case this time next year.

Well, it’s “this time next year” now, and the Siri watch face is up and running Apple watch He did not survive.

in its place? Smarter smart stack.

  • Widgets appear based on time, location, and more.
  • Live Activities, which was a missing feature on the Apple Watch, is now in the Smart Stack.
  • Smart Stack can display a Shazam widget when nearby music is detected.
  • Distance, training load, photo, and weather alerts tools are now included.

Siri the face of the real killer? double click. The finger gesture to summon the Smart Stack from the watch face on the Siri face never worked. Seeing two competing interfaces for vertical scrolling was a good sign of the emergence of the new method and the old method that was less used.

Even better is how watchOS 11 handles apps to automate live activities and media playback. The new default is to auto-launch Smart Stack when live activity or media playback is active. No double tap gesture needed.

As I concluded a year ago:

Ultimately, I think every data source from Siri’s face should become a tool. The Siri face could continue as a sort of dedicated watch face for the Widget. The Smart Stack actually looks like a redesigned Siri face.

That’s it Apple watch The work can wait for watchOS 11 or 12, but I think it has to happen versus the other option: ditching Siri’s face and letting it languish.

watchOS 11, in fact. The Face of Siri: 2017-2024. It has served some people well, sometimes. Now countdown to Apple intelligence The face begins…or at least the version of Apple Watch or watchOS that speaks the language of Apple Intelligence.

Honestly, I just want Siri with ChatGPT to be around Apple watchBut that’s something for another time. Siri + ChatGPT on iPhone, perhaps via AirPods, is exciting enough in the meantime.
