Vincent D’Onofrio says reports of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again undergoing a creative overhaul aren’t actually a big deal, as such changes are common in the film and television industry. D’Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk in the Marvel series opposite Charlie Cox as Daredevil.
“Unless you really know what’s going on, there’s a chance you could be wrong about that statement,” D’Onofrio wrote on X in response to a fan saying that one of the actor’s original posts celebrating “Born Again” had “aged badly “In light of the reform news. “We’re going to deliver the best series possible. One we can be proud of. Trust each other, my friend. Trust.”
“Every great project I’ve been involved with has continually evolved through pre-production, production and post,” D’Onofrio continued, explaining. “These days it gets reported like it’s big news. It’s not. It’s a group of creative people doing their best to get it right. It’s a constant in this business. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Honestly, I’d be concerned if we agreed to a lower amount.” .
“Daredevil: Born Again” was intended to be an 18-episode series, but filming on the project was halted in June amid a WGA strike. It will not continue until the current SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved. As he confirmed diverseLess than half of the episodes of Born Again had been filmed before production was halted. Those episodes are now being repaired, with only some elements remaining from the material that was actually filmed. The entire show is taking a new creative direction after parting ways with lead writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman. Marvel is currently looking for new writers to revamp the show.
Marvel fans have been anticipating Daredevil: Born Again, continuing the superhero story of Cox and D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, which first began in the three-season Netflix series “Daredevil.” Cox has cast Daredevil again in Marvel projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, while D’Onofrio returns in Hawkeye. Now both characters are featured in their own series.
“Despite my feelings about corporate shenanigans, I was really excited to see what the new creative team was working on,” Steven DeKnight, showrunner for the Netflix show’s first season, wrote about the news of the overhaul. “My heart goes out to everyone affected by this decision. Tomorrow is a better day.”
DeKnight had previously criticized the series when he criticized Disney for running a scam with the upcoming reboot project.
“It’s an old Disney scam where they renamed the series a bit to reset the contract terms back to Season 1,” DeKnight wrote on X/Twitter. “It must be addressed by all guilds/guilds and crushed!”
“From what I understand, I won’t see a dime of Daredevil: Born Again because they added Born Again and they can claim it’s a completely different show,” he explained. “You know, with the same main cast (who I love!) playing Daredevil and Fisk.”
There is currently no re-start date for production on “Born Again” due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
