Ukraine reported damage to power plants after Russian attack

According to reports from Ukraine, several power plants have been severely damaged in Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Ukraine says it attacked oil refineries in Russia.

Russia has hit Ukraine with new massive missile strikes. The Ukrainian Air Force said in the morning that a total of 34 rockets and 21 of various types of cruise missiles were shot down. It said the attacks came from the air, the Black Sea and the ground.

According to energy company DTEK, a total of four thermal power plants were severely damaged. People were also injured. “You'll get the help you need,” the company said. Workers are currently working to repair the damage.

Earlier, an aerial alert was issued across the country. According to the Ministry of Energy, the airstrikes primarily target energy facilities. Attacks were reported in Dnipro, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. According to officials, two energy facilities were affected in the Dnipro region.

Officials also said there were more explosions in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, not far from the Russian border.

Attacks on Russian oil refineries

But attacks against Russia also came from Ukraine: according to its own reports, two Russian oil refineries and a military airbase were hit in a large-scale drone strike. Ukraine has struck significant technical facilities at two refineries in Russia's southern region of Krasnodar, a Ukrainian defense source told AFP.

Russian authorities had earlier reported a fire at a refinery in the city of Slavyansk-na-Kubani. According to state media, the plant partially halted production. According to the Defense Ministry, a total of 66 drones were intercepted in Krasnodar and two drones were intercepted in the annexed Crimean Peninsula.

The governor of the Krasnodar region told the Telegram online service that the drones appeared to be intended to attack “oil refineries and infrastructure” but “there were no injuries or serious damage”.
