Thomas Tuchel: Bayern Munich is among the best in Europe and can challenge for every trophy

Thomas Tuchel believes Bayern Munich is one of the best teams in Europe and understands the immediate pressure to challenge for titles.

The 49-year-old was unveiled as Bayern’s new coach on Saturday following the sacking of Julian Nagelsmann earlier this week.

Tuchel has signed a contract with the German giants until 2025. He says he knows the responsibilities that come with the job and that he aims to win trophies for the club.

“They (Bayern) are one of the best clubs in the world,” he told a news conference. “Their DNA is about winning and the method too, but first about winning.

Responsibilities are clear and there are no misunderstandings whatsoever. The team assembled by Bayern Munich is considered one of the most talented and best in Europe. You can challenge every title with this squad.

“It puts me under pressure but at Bayern it is about winning all the titles. We are here to win all the titles.”

Nagelsmann’s exit came less than a week after Bayern lost 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen.

The loss saw Bayern concede top spot to Borussia Dortmund, who are now one point clear of the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Nagelsmann, 35, joined Bayern Munich on a five-year deal in July 2021 after spending two years at RB Leipzig after a three-year spell with Hoffenheim.

Despite the sudden departure, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn believes the club made the right decision in hiring Tuchel.

“He led PSG to the Champions League final, at Chelsea he was successful from the start, winning the Champions League. It’s an amazing resume,” Khan added.

“It shows development so we are happy that Thomas Tuchel is now our coach.”

Bayern will be next on April 1 when they take on rivals Borussia Dortmund.

They are also still in contention for the German Cup, with a quarter-finalist against Freiburg on the horizon.

Manchester City awaits in the Champions League, where the quarter-final match will be played back and forth in April.
