For starters, Miss Universe was hosted in New Orleans — it aired on Roku — and some claimed the fix was from the start to make sure R’Bonney Gabriel It culminated in the end of the show…which it really did. The runner-up was Miss Venezuela, Amanda Dudamel.
Dudamel impressed throughout the broadcast, especially with her heartfelt answers to certain questions. Her outfit was also a little less ridiculous than the one Gabrielle wore, particularly in the costume class… when she walked on stage with a moon landing.
Regardless of all this, many are pointing out what appears to be a clear conflict of interest from Jakrajutatip and co. Her foundation bought Miss Universe last fall for $20 million, and with it came the rights to Miss USA…which fall under the same umbrella.
Even before this pageant, there were already concerns about how Gabrielle would get to Miss USA in the first place… dating back to October, when JKN Global came on board as the new callers-in. Some have claimed that there was favoritism afoot in that competition as well…and there was a suspension in the higher ranks as a result of investigations into it.
Of course, another curveball here is the fact that Jakragutep is transgender — something that caught the attention of many when she gave a powerful speech at one point in the broadcast… where she said that Miss Universe is now owned by women, by women. .
Bottom line… Miss Universe is still as sexy as ever, with or without any missteps.
