The daughter drew a picture against the war – the father should be in prison

In Russia, a man has been jailed for commenting on the war. However, the reason may be in his daughter’s pictures.

In Russia, a prosecutor has sought a two-year prison sentence for a father for “repeatedly insulting the military” — apparently in connection with his daughter’s anti-war film.

The prosecutor said the man’s guilt was proven by his posts on social networks, independent internet portal Mediazone reported from the courtroom. After the prison sentence, he is banned from the internet for three years. The case of a young daughter being taken to an orphanage due to the war caused a stir in Russia.

Officially, the charges against the 54-year-old from the town of Yefremov in the Tula region south of Moscow revolve around his posts on social networks. There he is said to have repeatedly criticized Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The accused denies the allegations. He said his account was hacked.

Daughter in children’s home

The case begins with a photo of her daughter in a drawing class in the spring of 2022. When the teacher asked the children to draw pictures in support of Russian forces in Ukraine, the 12-year-old instead drew a Russian and Ukrainian flag, which she captioned with the words “No War” and “Glory to Ukraine.” As a result, a day later, his father was taken to the police station for the first time and fined.
