Steven Tyler will have to wait a little longer to return to performing as he recovers from a serious vocal cord injury.
The 75-year-old singer suffered a fracture in his larynx, according to a statement published on the verification website Facebook page For his band Aerosmith. As a result, the band has postponed the remaining dates of its 2023 “Peace Out” farewell tour to next year.
“To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he has suffered a fractured larynx, which will require ongoing care.
He added: “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure a speedy recovery, but given the nature of the fracture, he has been told that patience is essential.” As a result, all currently scheduled PEACE OUT shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced once more is known.
The statement included a personal note from Tyler, who wrote: “I’m sad not to be with Aerosmith and my amazing brothers and the Black Crowes, with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”
Earlier this month, Tyler and the band announced that he had suffered “vocal cord damage” and “subsequent bleeding” which required him to take a thirty-day break from singing.
While dates from that period have already been rescheduled, the rest of the “Peace Out” tour dates during October, November and December will now be rescheduled as well.
The 40-date North American tour was billed as a celebration of Aerosmith’s 50 years together and a final giveaway.
