Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC has a tepid launch

Shattered Space, Bethesda’s first major expansion for Starfield, was released a few days ago, but was unfortunately met with mediocre numbers of PC players and lukewarm reviews.

Meanwhile, Steam reviews for Shattered Space currently sit at a “mostly negative” average. Many of these reviews claim that the expansion is not worth its price, and many of them accused the developer of being “lazy” with its storytelling and overall content.

“They say less is more, and with Shattered Space that’s true. Bethesda gives you less while asking for more,” one Steam review said.

Another adds: “Incredibly humble.” “I was willing to give Starfield a lot of grace given it being a new IP but now I see what they’re doing to build on it, it’s just not worth it.”

Meanwhile, one positive review is an indirect compliment: “The story is boring. I recommend it if you suffer from insomnia and need to work the next day.”

on Metacriticthe expansion sits with an average “mixed or average” critical score of 54, with a current total of seven reviews. Of these seven, two are positive, three are mixed and two are negative.

However, some players enjoy Shattered Space. “This DLC is more than Starfield, which, if you liked Starfield to begin with, means you’ll likely find it worthwhile,” said one Steam reviewer.

“If you normally enjoy the base game, it’s worth it, and obviously, if you don’t like the base game, stay away,” another wrote.

Ahead of Shattered Space’s release, Bethesda shared more details about Starfield’s new planet Va’ruun’kai, which it said features “over 50 locations to discover.”

As for the future, Todd Howard recently confirmed that there will be at least one more Starfield expansion after Shattered Space, and a trademark for “Starborn” has been registered by Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax, then tongues wagging about what any future DLC might include.
