Prince Harry – Live: The Duke of Sussex arrives in Nigeria with Meghan for Invictus after ‘ignored by Charles II’

They are due to meet injured soldiers as part of a trip to Nigeria to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Nigerian Defense Spokesman Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, who confirmed today that the couple had arrived in the country, said their presence would serve as a much-needed morale boost.

“This engagement with Invictus gives us the opportunity to get our soldiers back,” he said.

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014 to give wounded, sick and injured service members a chance to showcase their sporting talents.

While speaking to the students about the issue, he sympathized that it can be difficult when “someone loses a loved one in your family and you don’t know who to turn to or who to talk to.”

“There is no shame in being able to admit that today is a bad day,” he told pupils at the Waze Lightway Academy in Nigeria, which is supported by the Archwell Foundation.

“In some cases around the world, and in more cases than you think, there is a stigma when it comes to mental health,” he said.

“A lot of people don’t want to talk about it, because it’s invisible – something in your mind that you can’t see. It’s not like a broken leg, it’s not like a broken wrist, it’s something we’re still relatively unsure about.”

“But guess what? Everyone in this room — the youngest and the oldest — everyone is mentally healthy.”

The Duke of Sussex then encouraged the children to “look after yourselves so they can look after others, and others should be able to look after themselves so they can look after you.”

The rift between Prince Harry and the Windsor family has reached its “deepest and most intense” this week, a royal expert has claimed.

The Prince did not have support from any of his immediate family at the thanksgiving ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

However, he was joined by members of his mother’s family, the Spencers – namely Lady Jane Fellowes, Earl Spencer, and former army officer Mark Dyer.

Michael Cole, a former royal correspondent for the BBC, said: “There was not a lot of love lost between the Spencers and the Windsors.”

He told MailOnline: ‘Nothing could more clearly illustrate the gulf that will always separate two famous families.’

“Words have power and actions have consequences, as Prince Harry – whose criticisms of the Windsor family have been harsh, harsh and hurtful – is increasingly discovering.”

Cole then referenced Princess Diana’s life, claiming that her father did not want her to marry then-Prince Charles from the beginning.

Instead, he advised his daughter to “follow the example of her older sister Sarah: marry a landowner, live in a nice house, have children, and be happy.”

The Duchess of Sussex first announced this on her podcast Prototypes In 2022, she said she made this discovery through genealogical testing.

The news was later noted by Prince Harry at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Invictus Games.

“Now, I’m not saying we’re playing favorites in our house, but since my wife found out she’s of Nigerian descent, it’s likely to get a little more competitive this year!” He said.

The couple are currently in Nigeria to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the sporting event, which Harry founded in 2014 to celebrate the strength of those wounded, injured and sick in service.

The couple, who are visiting the country for the first time as a couple, arrived this morning and began a busy schedule of events.

This included a visit to the Lights Academy in Abuja, Nigeria, which they were supporting through the Archewell Foundation.

The couple traveled to the country on a Boeing 777 after Meghan met Harry at Heathrow Airport following her decision to skip the UK’s 10th anniversary celebrations of the Invictus Games.

According to reports, they are staying at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, where the presidential suite costs £600 a night.

The five-star hotel has a pool, spa and stunning views of the mountains surrounding the Nigerian capital.

It is also located in an elevated, central location, allowing the couple to easily travel to the events they are scheduled to attend during their three-day visit.

The pair are due to visit a school before meeting injured service members in hospital as part of events to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Other events include a training session for gaming charity, Nigeria: Unconquered, and a reception to honor military families.

The Invictus Games, established by Prince Harry in 2014, give wounded, injured and ill soldiers an opportunity to showcase their sporting talents.

Harry and Meghan will also visit a basketball camp and a polo fundraiser.

According to reports, the couple were invited to Nigeria by the country’s Chief of Defense Staff, who was said to be “delighted” when they accepted the invitation.

Meanwhile, Harry was joined by Diana’s siblings, Lady Jane Fellowes and Earl Spencer, and former army officer Mark Dyer, who supported him after the Princess of Wales’s death.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, traveled from the UK, which he visited briefly alone, to mark the anniversary of the event he founded in 2014.

He arrived on Tuesday afternoon (May 7) and was met with apparent contempt by his family.

The first was news that his father, King Charles, was too busy to see his youngest son after returning to work last week.

The second snub came in the form of news that Prince William will soon be appointed Colonel-in-Chief of Harry’s old military regiment, the Army Air Corps.

Harry appeared to put on a brave face at a Thanksgiving party in the UK, which he attended on Wednesday without his immediate family.

He smiled at the crowd of well-wishers who turned out to watch his first public-facing event in some time and was supported at the ceremony by several members of Spencer’s family.

A new documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is currently in the works.

According to reports, it will reveal “new secrets” about the lives of former working royals.

Produced by a German television production company, the film will be based on the findings of journalist Ulrike Grünewald, who traveled to California to learn more about the couple by conducting an investigation in the Montecito neighborhood.

One of the people interviewed was former Fleet Street royal correspondent Richard Minyards, who said he was “disturbed” about the couple.

“Los Angeles-based producer Melanie Hellmann grilled me for two hours along with my Riven Rock neighbors, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, under the direction of director Ulrike Grünewald,” he revealed.

“The interview will be broadcast in due course as part of a prime-time documentary on ZDF Royal.”
