Howard Wayne I. Frederick University President announced in a press release that actress Phylicia Rashad will be ending her role as Dean of Chadwick A. Boseman Fine Arts Award at Howard University after the 2023-24 academic year.
This announcement comes two years after Rashad was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. She was commended by management for her efforts, but did not make any statement about the reasons for her departure.
Rashad graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and has served as an adjunct professor and visiting lecturer at many other institutions, including New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, State University of New York, Vassar College, and Fordham University.
Rashad got into hot water in 2021 when she tweeted her support for former co-star Bill Cosby, whose sexual assault conviction was overturned. she received a reprimand from school,
Rashad became a household name when she portrayed Claire Huxtable The Cosby Showa role that earned her two out of her five Emmy Award nominations.
Rashad also received two Primetime Emmy nominations for playing Carol on NBC this is us In the Guest Drama Series category. She also received an Emmy and SAG nomination for Best Actress for her role in Lorraine Hansberry’s A raisin in the sun as Lena Younger, a role she also played on stage.
