Phil Spencer reiterates that Xbox is excited about the Activision-Blizzard back catalog

Xbox head Phil Spencer spoke recently Windows Central On the possibility of renewing games from Activision-Blizzard’s history now that the publisher owns the company, he stressed that the process is delicate and has a lot to consider.

“We’re looking at the back catalog from Activision and Blizzard, and we’re really excited about the things we can do,” Spencer said. “It’s early days, so we need to talk to teams that are fully staffed and already working on things.” The Xbox boss explained how the team could balance studios’ positioning in Resurrection projects while also allowing them to create entirely new experiences – and even name-dropped Banjo-Kazooie in the process.

“I’m not someone who comes in and takes a franchise from a team and removes it from the discussion or development process of how to create something new,” Spencer told Windows Central. “I think the original creators, the culture — and frankly, some of the lessons we’ve learned from past experiences here are very important. You’ve seen from our history that we haven’t touched on all the privileges that people would like us to have — banjo fans, I hear you. But it’s true that when we find The right team, the right opportunity, I love revisiting stories and characters we’ve seen previously.

This is not the first time Spencer has hinted that such projects are being considered, although nothing concrete has been announced yet.

Spencer also spoke at length about Game Pass, and how it allows many Xbox Game Studios teams to pursue their own passions and create different types of games, both in size and genre. “If you look at things like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush and the long-term investment in games like Grounded, all of those games have been real successes for us in our subscription and in our platform.

“What we’re seeing with Game Pass is a service that supports all types of games, from the biggest titles to little-known indie games that you didn’t know you’d love until you played them. If you’re an individual publisher, you can really think about ‘how do you get everyone playing.’ for me Game.'”
