6 Oklahoma jumped to a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter over a Nebraska team looking to make a statement in the wake of Scott Frost’s dismissal last weekend. The Sooners got off to a slow start in the passing game, but quarterback Dillon Gabriel sparked a 25-yard pole to pick up Jalil Farooq to take the lead over the historic contender.
Nebraska got off to an optimistic start, walking the field for 77 yards that capped a touchdown pass from quarterback Casey Thompson to Trey Palmer. However, Oklahoma’s defense has stabilized since the three-sack written drive to keep the Cornhuskers off the plate. DaShaun White, Jonah Laulu, and Jalen Redmond all have bags for the Sooners.
Gabriel completed only one of his first four passes but dialed in on his next four, including a long touchdown to Farouk. He also got on offense with a 61-yard touchdown after breaking a Nebraska defense that left his midfield open. Farooq, Drake Stoops and Marvin Mims all have over 20 yards in the first quarter.
