NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) often shares mesmerizing photos that fascinate space enthusiasts. Now, in its latest post, the US space agency has shared a stunning image of the aurora borealis captured from the International Space Station. According to the caption, a dazzling green aurora swept across the skies over Utah, US, on Sunday night, creating a magnificent halo over our planet.

“Cloudy with a chance of glow. The aurora borealis dances in Earth’s atmosphere as the International Space Station (@ISS) rises 260 miles (418 km) above Utah during tropical night. The aurora borealis are brilliant ribbons of light that weave across the Arctic regions Or Earth’s south,” NASA said in its post.

Take a look below:

The space agency explained in the commentary that the aurora borealis is an atmospheric phenomenon resulting from solar storms on the surface of the sun. This solar activity sends huge clouds of electrically charged particles into space, extending over millions of miles. “The energetic charged particles generated by these events are carried by the solar wind from the Sun,” NASA said.

The US Space Agency added in its explanation of the image: “The surface of the Earth appears under the green mist of the aurora borealis, in an image taken from the International Space Station. Lights spread on the surface of the Earth from under a layer of clouds. Parts of the space station appear in the right corner of the image.”
