Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide had previously criticized the withdrawal of diplomatic rights as “extreme and unjustified”. The foreign minister said it was aimed at “Palestinians and all those who defend the Palestinian Authority and international law, the two-state solution and the Palestinians’ legitimate right to self-determination.”
The Palestinian Authority was established in 1993 based on the Oslo Accords, which were concluded after secret talks between Israel and the Palestinians in the Norwegian capital. Since then, the Scandinavian country has played an important role in the region.
