Microsoft expects two new PS5 models in the ‘near future’

Microsoft’s upcoming 1TB version of the Xbox Series S could follow a “PS5 Slim” sometime later this year, as well as a “PS5 Pro” in the near future — at least according to recent court documents filed by Microsoft.

In these documents (which are from Microsoft’s battle with the Federal Trade Commission), it is mentioned that the PS5 Slim will likely be launched for $399.99 Sometime in 2023. A Pro version is also mentioned, but without specifics.

PlayStation is selling a less expensive digital version for $399.99, and a PlayStation 5 Slim is expected later this year at the same discounted price.

“PlayStation currently offers two different versions of the PlayStation 5 – one with a Blu-Ray player for physical media (standard) and one without (digital) – and is expected to release more premium Pro and Slim models in the near future.”

If you feel like you’ve heard this before, it’s because Insider games Tom Henderson reported on the existence of two new PS5 models a while ago, suggesting that the first model would be a PS5 with a detachable disc drive that could launch in September 2023, and advised that a more powerful PS5 Pro would launch in late 2024.

Interestingly, the Carbon Black Xbox Series S is also slated for a September 2023 release, so it seems very likely that Microsoft targeted that window due to Sony’s plans with the “PS5 Slim”. As for the “PS5 Pro,” Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently suggested that he doesn’t feel like the Xbox Series X needs an upgrade anytime soon, though it remains to be seen if he’ll change his mind by the end of next year. year…
