It’s the biggest night in fashion! The red carpet for the 2024 Met Gala is now officially underway at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s exhibition, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Fashion Remade”, examines how technology can breathe new life into old clothes that are too fragile to be worn again.
Tonight, guests will walk up the museum’s iconic steps wearing outfits that nod to the event’s “Garden of Time” dress code, and you can see all the Met Gala 2024 looks here as the night begins. The theme of night clothes gets its name from J. G. Ballard’s story about a count who – to ward off an angry mob approaching his castle – cuts a rose from his garden to slow down time until there are no flowers left. With the story’s dystopian undertones combined with the show’s focus on the old and the new, we can expect a red carpet filled with everything from florals to tech-inspired fashions — and maybe even sleeping beauty A reference or two.
The gala, which raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute, is known for having a top-secret guest list. But while the names of those attending have been kept under wraps, we do know a few of the people who will be gracing the carpet at their garden party: Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Zendaya, who are serving as co-chairs alongside Vogue magazineAnna Wintour. The rest of the esteemed audience – which includes the world’s best singers, actors, models, athletes and entertainers – will reveal themselves in due course.
