“Not removing many”
Kremlin denies launching Russian hypersonic missiles

Kinzhal missiles are capable of changing altitude and direction at extreme speeds – thus avoiding enemy air defenses. So Putin praised them as “invincible”. Ukraine has allegedly shot down several missiles, which Russia has denied.

Russia has denied that Ukraine has launched modern hypersonic missiles. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian news agency RIA Novosti that Russia had not launched hypersonic missiles as the Ukrainian government had intercepted the previous night.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said six Russian Kinzel-type hypersonic missiles were intercepted during Russian airstrikes on Kiev. “Another incredible victory for the Ukrainian Air Force,” Reznikov wrote on Twitter.

“100 percent” of Russian missiles fired into Ukrainian territory overnight from Monday to Tuesday were intercepted, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video link to a Council of Europe summit. The military did not initially say what weapons were used to shoot down the rockets. Last week, Ukraine launched a Russian Kinzel hypersonic missile for the first time. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, it was intercepted by a Patriotic Defense system.

Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced Kinsha in 2018. The missiles are capable of changing altitude and direction at extreme speeds – thus avoiding enemy anti-aircraft defenses. Putin therefore hailed them as “invincible”.
