Linda Hamilton joins the cast – Variety

Season 5 “Stranger Things” adds Linda Hamilton to the cast. The announcement was made on Saturday as part of Netflix’s annual Tudum event.

Exact details about the character Hamilton will play are still being kept under wraps.

Hamilton is best known for her work in the “Terminator” movie franchise, appearing as Sarah Connor in the first film in 1984. She reprized her role in the successful sequel “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” in 1991 and again in the movie “Terminator: Dark Fate” in 2019. Other Hamilton credits include films like “Children of the Corn” and the TV series “Beauty and the Beast,” the latter of which has earned him an Emmy Award nomination and two Golden Globe nominations.

She is also the latest 80’s superstar to appear on ‘Stranger Things’. Other shows include series mainstay Winona Ryder as well as Matthew Modine, Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, Cary Elwes and Robert Englund.

It was announced in February 2022 that the fifth season of “Stranger Things” would be the last. Season 5 currently does not have a premiere date, and production has not begun.

Series creators The Duffer Brothers announced in May that they had begun writing the final season in 2022, but would not begin production while the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is on strike. “Hopefully a fair deal can be reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — again and again. #wgastrong,” the Duffers wrote at the time.

And while the main show may be ending, Netflix and the Duffers are already working on expanding the show into a major franchise. Recently, it was announced that a “Stranger Things” animation had been commissioned for the series.

Netflix announced plans for a live-action series and a theatrical run in July 2022, with Duffers Upside Down Pictures formed at that time under a new overall deal with Netflix. There are no details available about the live-action spin-off, though the Duffers have previously said it won’t focus on characters like Eleven or Steve Harrington. It was revealed in March 2023 that the stage show will take place in Hawkins in 1959 and will debut in London’s West End.
