King Charles and Camilla release new photos with four hidden royal symbols

King Charles and his wife Camilla, the Queen’s Queen, just released some new photos ahead of next week’s coronation — and they’ve got some historical nods hidden within them.

The three new photos, all taken in March at Buckingham Palace and shot by photographer Hugo Bernand, show the couple in a particularly lavish-looking room called the Blue Drawing Room.

So what’s the big deal?

Well, there seem to be some hidden symbols in the photos that suggest Charles is drawing on the past that comes with his new genetic role.

In his portrait, the monarch is seated in a rare chair (one of 12 suites) dating from 1828. It was provided to King George IV for the furnishings of Windsor Castle which reigned between 1820 and 1830 – which makes it fanciful. And Especially old.

The monarch also sits in front of an official portrait of King George V, painted after his coronation. As the great-grandfather of Charles who ruled between 1910 and 1936, the similarities would not be lost on the king when he assumed the throne more than a century later.

George V also wears a naval uniform with a state robe, or parliament robe. This is perhaps a reference to the way Charles would be expected to dress his Admiral of the Fleet at his coronation, in contrast to the trend of male monarchs To wear butt stockings.

Meanwhile, Charles looks very relaxed in the photo, smiling casually and looking directly into the camera.

This upholstery has a rich history too, dating back to 1812. According to Palace, it may have been commissioned by King George IV when he was Prince of Wales—the same title that Charles has held for more than 70 years. One of only two sets, this furniture has only been in the Blue Drawing Room since at least the early 1900s.

Also seated in front of a portrait of George V, the Queen was wearing a blue—royal blue, might we add—crepe dress and pearl drop earrings set with the rubies and sapphires that once belonged to the late Queen, but a pearl necklace from her private collection.

Perhaps this is a cute nod to her mother-in-law, who passed away in September.
