ROME – The speed limit in Germany has been debated for years. A study suggests that speed limits on German roads are not only beneficial for the environment, but also for the economy. But while little is happening in Germany when it comes to speed limits, recent action in two EU countries has caused a stir.

In Bologna, the capital of the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, a 30km/h speed limit has been in place across the board since the start of July. “We will drive a little slower and safer in Bologna,” Mayor Matteo Lepore said in a statement.
