Six Palestinians were killed during an Israeli military operation in the West Bank – including the alleged killer who apparently shot dead two Israelis in Huwara. According to Israel, soldiers who tried to arrest him opened fire.

Israeli forces have killed at least six people in a renewed military operation in Jenin in the West Bank. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said they all suffered gunshot wounds. 11 Palestinians were also injured, and two 16-year-olds are in mortal danger. The deceased were reported to be between the ages of 22 and 49.

According to the Israeli military, the Palestinian responsible for the deadly attack on two Israeli brothers in Huwara in late February was also killed. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said security forces had “eliminated a heinous terrorist”. “As I have always said: Whoever hurts us will pay the price.”

Israeli military spokesmen said soldiers were shot and hit with bricks and explosives when they tried to arrest a 49-year-old man in the Jenin refugee camp. The soldiers fired back. A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of waging war against Palestinians. At the same time, it hinders efforts to restore stability.

Clashes after the massacre

According to Israeli sources, a Palestinian shot dead two brothers from the Israeli settlement of Har Bracha in Huwara city on February 26 and fled. After the attack, hundreds of settlers attacked the city and its Palestinian residents, setting fire to homes and cars. One was shot. On Monday evening, Israeli settlers clashed with Palestinians again in Huwara.

During a site visit to Huwara on Friday, representatives of the European Union and other countries called for an end to violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and called on Israel as the occupying power to take responsibility for the welfare of civilians. .

Since the beginning of this year, 71 Palestinians have died – killed, for example, in clashes with the Israeli army or in their own attacks. During the same period, 13 Israelis and one Ukrainian were killed in attacks by Palestinians. Israel and the Palestinian Territories have been in a very tense situation for years. Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967. More than 600,000 Israeli immigrants live today. The Palestinians claim the territories for their own state.
