Harrison Ford may have retired his famous whip and fedora from the big screen, but another actor is capturing them on the small screen.
Bethesda also reveals the first look Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle, the long-awaited new video game, EW can exclusively confirm that Troy Baker is the one to bring the wise-cracking adventurer to life. The famous actor behind countless memorable gaming roles is perhaps most famous for having created the part of Joel V The last of us Commercial franchise.
“He really brings that charm and sense of humor in a good way,” Jerk Gustafsson, co-founder of MachinesGames and lead game designer, tells EW of Baker. “He's also a really big Indiana Jones fan, which is pretty cool. So he's also very invested in the game.”
Based on an idea from executive producer Todd Howard, Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle The film takes place in the Indy Films timeline, about a year after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark And before The last crusade. As such, the character animation maintains the similarity to Harrison Ford's performance. “He broke up with Marion,” Gustafson explains. “We know he's kind of lost again after that. He's adrift.”
After falling asleep at his desk at Marshall College, the famous archaeologist is awakened in the night by the sound of a crash. He investigates to find a large man named Locus (voiced by… Candy man And Marvel Spider-Man 2 The star, Tony Todd, steals a seemingly insignificant artifact. With the mystery man and the implications now up in the air, Indy heads to the Vatican in search of answers, but discovers there is more to the story.
The trailer and accompanying presentation by the creators that aired on Thursday highlight the importance of the Grand Circle from the title. “Throughout history, humanity has built sites of great spiritual significance,” Baker Indy says in the footage. “If you were to draw a line through these locations around the world, you would get a perfectly consistent circle.”
Later in the inspection, he found an unearthed message that read, “Patron of the Fallen Angels, Protector of the Great Circle…The Great Circle.”
Like the rest of Indy canon, The great circle It will be a global adventure. Some confirmed sites include the forgotten temples of Sukhothai, the pyramids of Egypt, and the snow-peaked Himalayas.
Marius Gavrilis, who voiced Bruce Wayne in the German recording of Gotham Knights, portrays the game's main villain, Emmerich Voss, who has the same focus as Indy. “He's looking for those big mysteries and those things that are unknown to the rest of the world. That's a big part of what drives him,” Gustafson says. “So when it comes to this obsession, they're very similar. I think that's the key element here that makes this a very interesting antagonist for Indiana Jones.”
The other main character is Gina Lombardi, voiced by Italian actress Alessandra Mastronardi, who appears opposite Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal in the film. The unbearable weight of enormous talent. Jenna is an investigative journalist with a personal stake in this story. “I don't know how much I want to get into this right now,” Gustafson teases. “I would say she's also a bit of a resistant journalist, and that was an important part as well in shaping that character to make sure that Jenna had her own goals.”
The great circle Also featuring works by senior lighting artist Julie Haraldsdotter, sound director Pete Ward, senior narrative designer Ed Curtis Sivis, senior animator Rebecca Elfström Hedden, and film producer Mitra Ashkan-Far.
Although the game is primarily set from a first-person perspective, it often drops back into a third-person perspective during cut scenes and environmental traversal to give fans those money shots of Indy with his whip and hat.
The entire project is a mixture of story, puzzle solving, open world exploration, discovery and stealth. Similar to how Ford's Indy works in the movies, players can choose to circumvent objectives by, for example, sneaking up on an enemy and hitting them over the head with a shovel, eavesdropping on conversations, or using your classic whip to climb up or distract attackers. Or cut straight to the chase and get into a fight.
Ultimately, Gustafsson says he wants to The great circle To feel like players are in the midst of a long-lost indie movie from the 1980s. Part of that comes from the game's cinematic approach (stunt guys did some of the action on set in motion capture suits to make it look authentic), elements borrowed from the movies (like Indy's classic world map graphics), and new music composed by Geordie Happ in the style of John Williams' score Classic.
Another part of that was Baker himself. “Not only is he a good actor, he also contributes a lot to the improvement of the game,” explains Gustafsson. Baker traveled to MachineGames' home base in Sweden early in the process to work on blocking the motion capture performance. “When we finish it, there are a lot of adjustments and changes, not only to the script itself, but also to how we set up the scenes, how we set up the cameras,” continues the game director. “Troy is a much more part of the development team than we normally see just by being in those blocking sessions.”
