In the legal conflict over Harry’s US visa, a decision is nearing: lawyers from both sides faced off against each other on Tuesday (local time) at a hearing in federal court in the US capital, Washington.
Federal Judge Carl Nicholls gave the US government a week to decide whether to release documents related to Harry’s visa application. If officials refuse, a process is necessary, Nichols decided.
The instigator of the tug-of-war was the exiled king himself. Harry has spoken freely about previous drug trials in his autobiography “Spare”. Marijuana, cocaine, mushrooms – each of his addictive pleasures could be studied in detail.
In a case presented to BILD, the conservative “Heritage Foundation” wants to know whether Harry concealed drug use when applying for his visa – and whether the granting of a residence permit was legal. The group is demanding that the “Harry visa file” be released under the “Freedom of Information Act”.
Specifically, the visa application form (DS-160) contains two questions:
- Have you ever been addicted to drugs?
- Have you ever violated or conspired to violate a controlled substance law?
If Prince said no to the questions, he would be lying. It might be tight for him.

► He writes about his teenage years in “Spare”: He drew his first coke on a hunting weekend and then “kept coke”. Although Coke didn’t make him “particularly happy”, Harry wrote, “But I was weird about it – that’s the point!”
► He also referenced an episode when “Friends” star Courteney Cox, 58, took psychedelic mushrooms at home. “We found a large box of black diamond mushroom chocolates,” the book says. “My friend and I caught several, swallowed them, and washed them down with tequila.” He then fainted while sitting on the toilet.
► A 416-page affidavit lists further tests on psycho-mushrooms in 2016. He also had an experience with the hallucinogenic brew ayahuasca.
The foundation now wants to twist a rope out of it. There are legal ramifications and an image crisis. In the lawsuit, prosecutors cite “extensive media coverage” of Harry’s drug use. They want to know if Prince is really screened enough. Or are the “core elites” prioritized here?

The ministry’s lawyers said the plaintiffs did not adequately justify the need to release the files in their request – and failed to document the “public interest”.
The court has the final say in this tug-of-war. Even if the case is dismissed, experts say the investigation and related revelations could complicate future visa extension or green card applications.
