Google today rolled out a new update to search, the October 2023 Spam Update. This spam update improves Google’s “coverage of many languages and types of spam” Google books.
Types of spam. Google said the October 2023 spam update “aims to clean up several types of spam reported by our community members in Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese, and other languages.”
Google said the update should “reduce visible spam in search results, especially when it comes to cloaking, hacking, auto-generated spam, and deleted spam.”
A few weeks put up. The update will take a few weeks to roll out.
Previous updates. Before that, the last confirmed Google spam update was the October 2022 spam update and the December 2022 spam update. Before that it was the November 2021 spam update. Google also released a two-part spam update – on June 23 and 28 In 2021, as well as a spammy link update in July 2021.
Why do we care? If you notice changes in your rankings over the next few weeks and your site isn’t primarily in English, even though it may be targeting English results, it could be related to this. This update specifically targets anonymization, hacking, auto-generated spam, and spam.
