Galaxy S24 reportedly gets 7 years of Android updates

There's less than a week left until the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S24 series, and a slew of new leaks are revealing some new features as well as Samsung's beefed-up update promise.

A series of marketing images have been published By Evan Blass Apparently intended for retail use, there are a host of new features coming to the Galaxy S24 series, which of course focuses on artificial intelligence. This includes the previously announced Live Translate feature for phone calls, the use of AI to improve Zoom at night, as well as the AI-powered Notes Assist feature in Samsung's Notes app.

Furthermore, there is mention of the specifications, which include a 6.8-inch QHD+ display on the Galaxy S24 Ultra that is specifically described as “flat,” a 6.7-inch QHD+ display on the S24+, and a 6.2-inch FHD+ display on the S24. All three are 2600 lumens. The S24 and S24+ have 50-megapixel primary cameras while the S24 Ultra has a 200-megapixel main camera, the smaller two are aluminum and the Ultra is titanium.

The two new stories in particular start with “Circle to Search,” a new feature powered by Google.

The “research circle” was described by saying:

Find any image, video or text on your screen. Circle, highlight, scribble or tap to select what interests you, without having to take screenshots.

While the details are not clear from these leaks alone, they are Look Like this is a new form of Google Lens. It's displayed using the S Pen, but it's unclear whether or not that's the only way to use it. In any case, it is interesting to see the close partnership, especially since Assistant with Bard is also expected to be available in the Galaxy S24 series.

Beyond that, Android addresses Other reports (plus the same images were also leaked as Blass) say that Samsung will follow Google's lead and support the Galaxy S24 series with 7 years of Android updates.

The company currently supports recent flagships with 4 years of major Android updates and 5 years of security patches, but this report claims that Samsung will provide 7 years of major updates. And Security patches. This isn't surprising given that was Google's strategy with the Pixel 8, but it's nice to see nonetheless.

The report also notes that Galaxy AI features will be “free” until 2025, meaning Samsung may choose to charge a subscription for some of these features, but details are scarce.
