Frank Reich: Panthers owner David Tepper wants a winner, and he wants him now

Panthers coach Frank Reich knows he works for a hands-on owner in David Tepper.

Reich said Tepper has made it clear he’s not happy with the Panthers having the worst record in the league, and wants to see improvement.

“He wants to bring a winner to the Carolinas,” Reich said on NBC. Charlotte Observer. “He wants it now. He pushes me, and us, to this end. He wants to do whatever it takes, turn over every stone, turn them over as much as he can to produce successful football. So I appreciate those conversations. They’re always a big challenge. He’s a super competitive person. He will not sit idly by.”

Reich admitted that it’s not fun to sit down and explain to Tepper why they didn’t win.

“There are different philosophies of ownership,” Reich said. “Some owners stay away and don’t get involved as much. Other owners do. And his philosophy is he’ll get involved. And listen, it was only a short experience, but it was a really good experience. It wasn’t fun. It’s not fun. These meetings aren’t that, and I can’t I describe them as fun meetings, but those meetings make me better and I’m sure they make us better.

So far, there is no evidence that the Panthers are improving. Tepper may not show much patience with Reich if the Panthers don’t improve soon.
