to update: Fortnite developer Epic Games has disabled matchmaking ahead of extended server maintenance. With matchmaking disabled, players will no longer be able to join games. As of 9am GMT, all players will be kicked out while maintenance fully begins. As a reminder, the game will be offline for approximately two hours. According to Epic Games, the file sizes of the new update will also be larger than usual: “Patch sizes on some platforms may be larger than usual.”

creative: Fortnite developer Epic Games is shutting down the game for extended maintenance as part of the rollout of update 27.10, which heralds the start of OG Seasons 7 and 8. The update is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, Android, and PC. Version 27.10 will be available for download on the morning of November 16. It will be accompanied by a server downtime, meaning you won’t be able to play Fortnite for at least two hours. The news was announced by Epic Games on Twitter, along with details on when the servers will be taken offline for maintenance.

“What do you call frozen pirate treasure? …Pol-arrr Loot!” reads the epic tweet.

“Downtime for version 27.10 begins at 4 a.m. ET with matchmaking disabled shortly before.”

For UK fans, this means Fortnite will be completely shut down at 9am GMT, while matchmaking will be disabled at 8.30am.

Epic hasn’t revealed exactly when the downtime will end, but maintenance typically lasts about two hours.

This means Fortnite should be back online by 11am GMT in the UK at the latest.

As part of the update, Epic will bring back Frosty Journeys and Snowy Biomes. This is in addition to pirate camps, Adventure Equipment, weapons, and various items.

Unblocked weapons include the Flint-Knock Pistol, Minigun, and the powerful Quad Launcher.

Players will also be able to use the Poison Dart Trap, although not in the Zero Build. The detailed glider respawn will also return, not to mention buried treasure, which should play a role in some of the challenges.

Perhaps most exciting of all is the return of the X-4 Stormwing and the Pirate Cannon, the latter of which allows you to shoot your teammates.
