Farhan Al-Zaidi reveals Gabe Kapler’s conversation after Giants fire manager – NBC Sports Bay Area and California

Gabe Kapler was fired by an MLB team for the second time in four years on Friday when the Giants let him go.

But the conversation he had with Farhan Zaidi in the wake of the decision was productive, San Francisco’s president of baseball operations told reporters.

“I spoke to him for an hour,” Al-Zaidi said on Friday. “I did not expect the conversation to be this long.” “I guess I wasn’t expecting any different from him, but he made it very easy for me, whether he should have or not. He wanted to talk a lot about my thoughts, my reactions. We had a lot of back and forth.

“It wasn’t really a personal conversation. It was really professional about what happened and what I thought we could do better, what I thought we could do better.”

Kapler posted his first public statement since his firing on his Instagram account on Saturday, reflecting on his tenure with the Giants as a whole — what went wrong, what the team accomplished and more. He said he’s looking to the future, and it’s clear from his conversation with Al Zaidi that Kapler will look to learn from his time in San Francisco.

“I really appreciated this conversation,” Al-Zaidi continues. “He actually cares about the business and trying to get better, so I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone who knows him that he was looking for feedback right away, even in a moment where there was a lot of gravitas. I thought it was a really good conversation.”

“He had time to talk to some people at the club and say goodbye to people, which is important. I’m sure he will do that in the coming weeks as well. I don’t want to say too much about him, but I will say he was a consummate professional.”

Now, the Giants are on a search for a new manager, with the goal of hiring that person before the start of the offseason in early November. And with Zaidi entering the final year of his contract with the Giants in 2024, he certainly hopes to get those conversations right as well.
