E3 2023 has been cancelled

E3 has been cancelled. The big summer game show in Los Angeles was set to return in person for the first time since 2019, but it was canceled after huge game companies like Nintendo, Microsoft and Ubisoft all said they would not be participating in the event.

E3 2023 is scheduled for June 13-16 with a mix of industry-focused days and days that will be open to the public. But in the run-up to June, there were some troubling signs that things could be rough for the E3 revival.

According to an email sent to employees and confirmed via IGNsaid, E3 2023 “simply has not garnered the sustained interest needed to execute it in a way that shows the scale, strength, and influence of our industry.”

in an email to the edge, Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global Vice President of Games at ReedPop wrote:

This was a tough decision because of all the efforts we and our partners put in to make this event happen, but we had to do what was right for the industry and what was right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies will not have demos ready to run and that resource challenges made being at E3 this summer an insurmountable hurdle. For those who stuck with E3 2023, we’re sorry we couldn’t deliver the show you deserve that you’ve come to expect from the event experiences at ReedPop.

Marsden Kish concluded the email by saying that ReedPop and ESA will work together at future E3 events, suggesting that the convention may return in later years.
